Question

One of my tracks isn't playing

I’ve been working on a project in Audition that has two tracks in the multitrack: one with music and one with dialogue. I was working on it when it said there was an error reading the disk, so I should save and restart Audition. I saved and restarted my project, but then my first track (with the dialogue in it) was not playing. The music in the track below is still playing. You can see the sound waves on the track, but the sound meter does not move.

I am on a windows PC. I’ve tried changing audio hardware preferences, I’ve tried restarting my PC, I’ve tried to shift all sounds down a few tracks, I’ve tried looking at previous backups (but they did not play as well),

I think that the first thing to do is look at the properties for the track to make sure that the output is still routed. You can get that to display by selecting Properties from the Window menu (so it displays) and then picking it up  in the window it plays in - usually the one with markers, etc in it. Assuming that it has a white dot in the source channel routing, it should be okay as far as being a file is concerned. But it’s also possible (in fact from the message you got, quite likely) that the session file itself is corrupted - this has happened to a few people recently. The thing to do to check this out is to start a new session with the same files and see if that plays okay - if it does, then you have your answer. If none of this works, come back and we can look elsewhere...

This is a double click on the audio track that isn’t playing. (Note -- I’ve tried it on a second Windows computer now too.)

And now a pic of spectral pitch, which I dug into as I’ve continued researching.  It is blank. Is there any way to fix this or did I just lose days of work! :(
