Opening Audition

I've been having trouble opening up audition on my laptop. when I click on the icon, the picture for audition shows up, but also a message box shows up saying "Audition cannot enter preference folder, please make sure current user has the read/write permission to the preference folder". My question, how do I fix this problem? what are the steps to do so?
