Question

Organising the FILES panel

After importing several files from my various Explorer folders for everal Audition projects, the FILES panel gets very crowded.  When working on several projects concurrently (multitasking) as I do, searching for the right file in the FILES panel becomes cumbersom and time consuming.

So it needs to be organised. The only organising tool I can see is to sort the file name by alpha in  ascending or descendiong order which is not very helpful.  I need FOLDERS.

Is it possible to organise these files in folders? say, Music, Voice, Guest, Host, FX etc in the FILES panel?

Files organisation presently has to take place outside Audition. Last I heard, there was some work underway to alter all of this - I think in order to make Audition's behaviour more like Premiere's, which uses a bin structure (probably what you really want). When this will come to any sort of fruition I'm afraid I have no idea - nobody's said anything about this for a while. But it's a big change if it happens. One of the problems we know about with bins is that whilst they are fine for files with visual content, you can't exactly say the same thing about audio-only ones. I have no idea at all about how this would be handled!

what I have in mind is not the file organisation at the core, but the way they are displayed in the Files panel.

Just like the Multitrack session doesn't change the audio file but allows us to pick and manipulate any parts of it (i.e. display), I thought of a similar process for how the files are displayed in the FILES panel.  An option to create temporary Display folders, for music, voice, SFX etc would be great, and I think not requiring a major re-structure of Audition. So I'm talking cosmetics not an open heart surgery 🙂

Well I'd be perfectly happy with that, but it doesn't seem to be what the video users want, and they make FAR more fuss about it... 🙂
