Question

Output Volume For Monitoring Single Track while recording

In an effort to reduce clipping from overzealous vocals while recording vocal tracks, I've reduced the gain on my mic.  However, that means I cannot hear the vocals in my ears as the volume for the track I'm recording is much lower than the volume of the music backing track.  How can one increase the output volume of a single track while recording?  Using Mac OS if that makes a difference

There are many ways to achieve this.

You could create a bus that outputs to a seperate hardware output for monitoring eg Headphones and you could Send your vocal track out or music track out to that bus at a higher or lower level
