"Play Spectral Selection Only" Not Working

I have the "Play Spectral Selection Only" box checked, but when i highlight a selection and press spacebar to play, it still plays the full range of sound. What other settings affect this? I'm using the most recent version of CC 2018 as of right now, this function worked for me in previous versions.

Just to close the loop here, I think I figured out what I did: when i have effects in the rack (even if the rack is turned off), playback will play the entire sound even when only a part of the spectral is selected. once the effects rack is emptied, it plays the spectral selection accurately.

    Are you using either the Marquee tool or the Lasso tool to make your selection in the Spectral Frequency display? It seems to work as expected on my installation of CC 2018 11.1.1.3. Does it show the Play Spectral Selection Only ticked when you also right click on the Play button? Try turning it on and off a few times.

    Well, I haven't changed anything in the past hour, but it's working properly now. I still don't know what caused it, but it had lasted long enough that i thought it was a persistent problem. Thank you for the steps, and my apologies that I don't have much useful information. Hopefully nobody else has to deal with it.
