Hey!

Just picked up the Presonus StudioLive AR12 Mixer. Using with windows 10 and Adobe Audition CC 2017 with the ASIO driver to multitrack and record podcasts. I use 4 headset mics and want to playback audio into headsets after recording, but am having trouble. How do I send audio (for review) from Audition back to the headsets?

It's funny that you responded, because I spent a good part of last night reading the Audition forum and trying to get to the bottom of the issue. I noticed that you've helped a lot of people with their issues and I entertained directly messaging you! That being said, thanks for everything you do for the folks that come here in need. The presonus customer support was no help, and treated me as a nuisance.

I did have the appropriate driver installed. The issue was the button that controls the USB return and the built in SD card slot! As soon as I switched it to USB return, everything worked perfectly! A little embarrassing and bit of an oversight on my part. Thanks again and I'll try to do my part by helping others on the forum!

How you hear playback has more to do with settings on your AR12 than with Audition.

With this in mind, I've just had a look through their documentation (at least as much as was available online)--I can make it this week's nominee for "least helpful manuals in the audio section".

Anyway, I THINK what you'll have to do is install the appropriate Presonus Driver on you computer--those seem to be available here: StudioLive AR12 USB | Downloads | PreSonus

Once the driver is installed, within Audition go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware. Set the Device Type to ASIO and, if you get more than one option, select the AR12 for record and playback. (If you're already recording then the foregoing may e redundant.)

Then, if the Presonus manual is correct, when you hit playback, your recordings should be sent back to the mixer on the last two channels (11 and 12 in your case). Note that there's a button on the mixer to switch between the USB return and the build in SD card slot. This will have to be in USB mode to hear Audition.

You don't mention how you plan to split the signal you get into 4 separate headphones. To do this, you'll need some form of headphone amplifier/splitter. There are lots on the market--one of the cheapest I know is the Behringer HA400 Headphone amp--the price will vary depending where you are--here in Australia it's around $50 but if you're in the US I think it's closer to $30.

I have been trying to use Audition with my Presonus AR12 and having issues, so did a web search and got this as a hit. I had to respond as I have been a tech writer for over 27 years and also would nominate the Presonus documentation as some of the most unhelpful I've ever seen. It makes the product almost unusable for someone that doesn't already sorta know that they are doing.

Anyway, I am trying to do something a bit different that the person inquiring here--I want to do multitrack recording and run the various inputs from the board to Audition, but I think the advice here might be all the help I need. It looks like I may need to update the driver, and that button definitely is important and a little obscure when it comes to how your signal gets routed. If you have any other ideas about this sort of thing, please let me know.

In the past I have used Presonus' Studio One DAW, which also has horrible documentation, which is part of the reason I wanted to use Audition--the doc and support are great.
