Problem Scanning for Plug-Ins

I recently installed a few 3rd party plug-ins but cannot find them to activate. When I instruct Audition to scan for plug-ins, it appears to begin scanning but the progress bar remains at 0% and never progresses or ends. It just sits there at 0% forever. Most of the time when I finally cancel out of this and close the plug-ins window Audition quits on me. Is it something I'm doing wrong or has my installation of Audition gone awry? This is the first time I've installed plug-ins.
