Question

Processing lag in bigger files

I've got an HP laptop with a 11th gen i7 2.8gHz processor, 32 GB RAM, running Windows 10 and Audition 2022.

I'm noticing that when I have a large number of tracks (music) or a very long project with a lot of automation (lectures)  I start to have issues where it takes awhile to do any singular action like moving the cursor, or setting new keyframe points for volume automation.  I pre-render tracks which helps, but on projects pushing over an hour, or over 10 tracks (which includes bus tracks)  it takes awhile for the processing to catch up.  Is there anything else I can do to make the program run more smoothly?  The actual processing load on my CPU isn't that high.

I'm creating projects at 48kHz and 32-bit float, which I know creates a larger file.

The problem with lots of large files is that it takes time to do anything with them
The only way to speed this up comes down to three things CPU, RAM and disk drive.
If you could get a faster CPU, more RAM and a faster drive that would help
If you could only do one thing I would get a faster drive
