processor speed for batch file processing

I wonder if anyone can tell me the best processor for batch file processing - things like applying effect plugins, mtch volume, analysing statistics, etc?

Currently i have a 2.5 ghz dual core i5 (not sure what generation but it's in a Lenovo x220).

I'd love to be able to process files a bit quicker and was wondering if a quad core 2.6 ghz i7 would be significantly faster, or am I better off finding a higher clock speed regardless of the number of cores?

Thanks.

If your processing involves FFTs then last time I checked, the number of cores is significant. Multicored processors tend to out-perform ones with fewer, regardless of the clock speed. Unfortunately a lot of the delays you might experience will result from slower file handling from your HD. If you want to speed up everything appreciably, then use an SSD.
