Project cannot open

Question

I get this message when trying to open an Audition project:

Error: Media Foundation reported an error when opening the file.
The byte stream type of the given URL is unsupported.

And the project won't open.

How can I solve or go around the problem?

This error often relates to missing or unsupported media codecs in Windows. To resolve it:

1. **Install Media Feature Pack**: If you're on Windows 11 N, install the Media Feature Pack from Microsoft's site.
2. **Update Codecs**: Ensure all necessary media codecs are installed, like K-Lite Codec Pack.
3. **Convert Files**: Try converting the audio or video files to a different format before importing them into Audition.
4. **Run as Administrator**: Run Adobe Audition as an administrator to rule out permission issues.
