Punch and Roll - best practice to edit tracks sans detritus?

What is the best practice for removing the junk lurking underneath a punch and roll track so that when I wish to edit, that "junk" is no longer there?  Right now, the only way to do it is cumbersome:

  1. Export / Selected Clips - saved in wav of course adding extra data to store
  2. Go to finder
  3. Find track
  4. Get track from finder
  5. Drag new cleaned up track back into Audition
  6. Start editing

Please tell me there's a better way (begging emoji) - you'll be my hero!

Also from a data storage standpoint, I'd like to figure out a way to rid my files of these bloated punch and roll files but the naming convention and other factors are such that it makes it an unnerving and slow process to delete files as one is never sure they're deleting the correct one.
