How would you like to see it working? You could try to push the Feature Request higher up the list by asking for it again in Wishform - Adobe Audition

I haven't tried this yet, but you may want to look at http://bloomsbury.digital/hands-free-punch-roll-adobe-audition-mac/

That's actually just an applescript that sends keystrokes. There's all sorts of important thigns it doesn't do -

i.e. it doesn't crossblend the recorded audio, it has no metronome, and it can't 're-take' it.

My current implementation is MUCH closer to the real punch and roll experience in programs that already natively supported. It's pretty robust!

It even 'works' with this annoying issue with the mix-paste confirmation - but requires another keystroke randomly, which is why I'm hoping to get a workaround.

Do you mean Loop recording with pre-roll to get multiple takes? Or Punch in to record during playback? I'm not fully conversant with the term 'Punch and Roll'. Punching in yes. So it would be helpful if you could explain a little more what you are trying to do in Audition.

Edit. OK I've looked it up so now have some idea of what you need to be able to do. You can do Pre-roll recording in Audition these days but I am not sure that you can do it on the fly.

Both would be nice.  It's a much quicker way to edit long form narration.  The clicker method is just too slow.
