Recommended Hardware for Behringer x32 Recording

Question

I am currently running Audition 14.1.0.43 on a MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020) which has a 1.1GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i3, Intel Irius Plus Graphics (1536MB) and 16GB RAM. With that, the lowest I/O Buffer Size I can go to is 128. Under that, and I get clicks while recording that showup in playback. The problem, though, is that operating at 128 produced a minor but noticable delay in sending the sound back to the monitors, so the band is thrown off. I would like to go down to 64, 32, or 16 as the delay seems to dissapear down there, but as I said, that produces the clicks. I am assuming the only way around this is a more powerful computer. Any recommendations on hardware or other workarounds is appreciated.

There are no other workarounds, I'm afraid. And you would have to spend a lot of money on a seriously fast machine, and even then the problems wouldn't go away, because it still takes a finite amount of time to digitise and then return the signal to an analog form for monitoring. Even if you got rid of the computer completely from the loop, there would still be a delay just from that - which is why critical monitoring is done locally in your sound device by a direct link between input and output, with no digitising, especially if you are wearing headphones.

With bands it shouldn't really be an issue, as long as the band don't try to monitor themselves from the computer whilst performing, and just use playback tracks - if that's what you are doing, of course. The software should compensate for the recording latency, although how accurate this actually is is a little debatable - often you still have to shunt tracks back into correct alignment.
