Question

Recorded audio has an odd sound compared to other programs/preview.

I just recently upgraded my mic to a Rode NT1 and got Adobe Audition to mess around with and record some simple guitar and vocals.  When I record audio using an online recorder or just hear the preview from the audio interface, the sound is perfect.  Whenever I arm to record and record something in Audition (multitrack) and then play it back, it sounds somewhat metallic.  This happens with the guitar and vocals.  Another way I can describe the odd sound is it sort of sounds like when you use the adaptive noise reduction and as soon as you play it back it sounds like your audio is coming out of a cardboard box but not as dramatic.  Is there a setting that comes naturally that I need to adjust?

Does it sound metallic as you are actually recording it? And exactly which version of Audition are you using? (including build number...)

Did you open a brand new session to record into or did you use one of Audition's built in Templates. If you use a Template they tend to have quite a few effects added to the Effects Rack which might be what you are hearing.

Also what audio interface and drivers are you using to connect the NT1 into Audition? If you play back audio files opened in Audition but not recorded in it do they play back sounding OK?
