Recording with skips/missing data

Hi community,

This is my first, somehwhat desperate, post. I've received a file that has regular skips/mis-recording every couple of seconds. It is not a case of silence gaps, but almost as if piece of the recording are missing and it is squashed together as it carries on.

The audio was recorded through a sound desk into a USB. I think I know how this has happened but wondered if anyone had magic solutions to fix or improve?
