remix not working, switches back to 'stretch'

I have a short musical clip I need to remix. It runs about a minute and I need shorten it by a few seconds. However, when I select the "Duration" check box and select "remix", audition analyzes the clip for a couple of seconds, the finished only to uncheck "Remix" and goes back to "Stretch"

I have even tried to separate the clip into a separate file but it does the same thing. Any idea what is going on? Is the clip too short? A bug? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you.

    If you have a musical clip that you want to shorten by a few seconds, Remix is the last thing you need! Remix analyses music and cuts it up and re-arranges it. What you need to do is use Stretch in a negative way, and shrink your clip using that. The chances are that if you only want to make a very small change, Remix would have trouble anyway, as it's rather better at taking out larger chunks of audio than small ones, in my experiences with it. And because it's algorithmic, there's no guarantee that you're going to like the results either - which is why generally, if you want to lose just a few seconds out of a minute, stretch is your friend, and it can do a pretty good job of this without losing the sense of it.

    I agree with Steve that, for a small change, using the Stretch set to change duration not pitch is the better procedure.

    Remix is a great tool for longer changes but depends on having "room to work" since it detects whole phrases of music and either edits them out or uses them twice.   However, this makes very small changes not the Remix forte.

    If you haven't used it before, the effect Steve mentioned is under Effects/Time and Pitch/Stretch and pitch.  You have a choice of an Izotope algorithm and an Adobe one.  Both work.  The one thing to remember is to set it to change duration to whatever you want but lock the pitch change at zero.

    As an aside, back in the UK the daughter of a friend was a figure skater--and one they figured out I could change music duration without changing the pitch they drove me craze as there's an exact length the routines have to be.  Never tell a figure skater you can do this!
