Removing roughness out of a voice recording

Question

Hi,the voice recording I'm working on sounds too rough to me and I'd like to fix that and avoid it in the future. Not sure "roughness" is even the right term, so the below file first shows the original voice, and in the last fourth of the video I try to demonstrate what I mean by "roughness". https://www.dropbox.com/s/exzhd01y5go5cwa/1.1_mixdown.mp3?dl=0 I'd appreciate if you can point me in the right direction, thank you.

Don't know what equipment you're using, so it's difficult to comment accurately. What I can tell you though is that your 'roughness' is distortion, and you simply can't fix that - there's no reference point for what it should sound like. Without that, you're stuffed. Which is why there are no distortion-removing apps available. It's possible to correct the odd 'clip', but only if you have accurate slope information for the instances either side of it. By and large, doing that is pretty unnoticeable anyway.

What this sounds like is preamp overload. But as I said, we'd need more details of how you are recording to get any further.
