Saving or Converting File to u-law format.

Hi,

I make my living recording telephone on-hold messaging and I've recently taken on a couple of clients with phone systems that require files do be downloaded in the "u-law" format.  I know it's a very low quality file but I can't find this option available in Adobe Audition.  Granted, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  Can anyone help me with this? I appreciate it very much!

G'day Dave, I too have to provide phone message in uLaw format. I use Audacity to convert files. I save the mono Auditon clip as .wav, Drag it into Audacity, select Project Rate (HZ) bottom left to 8000,  FILE drop down Export as WAV, File name, Save as type WAV (Microsoft) Encodeing U-Law. Hope this helps. I'm off to try and do it directly from Audition. Cheers Michael

Yes, it's a low quality format, and you have to be really careful with your dynamics (fairly heavily compressed signal, getting up to around 0dB) or it will sound dreadful.

Okay, how: In Save As, use Libsndfile as the format, and change the Format settings:

I've highlighted it, but not selected it.
