Setup Adobe Audition with Steinberg UR44

Question

I currentlly have a Shure SM7B mic plugged into the Cloudlifter CL-2, and that is plugged into the back of the Steinberg UR44 (Line Inout 5).  I need help sedtting up the hardware in Adobe Audition, because I cannot get it to record sound.  Am I doing something wrong?  I was told to plug the pre-amp into the rear line input and not into the front XLR connection for safety reasons.  Help is appreciated

I'm not at all surprised that you can't get anything out of it. The Cloudlifter requires to be plugged into an input that provides phantom power, and a line input won't do that. You need it plugged into an XLR input on the front panel and the phantom power turned on before you're going to get anything out of it at all!
