Silencing a specific Time Selection

Hello!So I am trying to edit out some breathing in an audio file... I want to cut it out of the track without making the track shorter and having to split it into two tracks and trying to synchronise up where it would originally be with the rest of the multitrack. I just want that part silenced out with the rest of the track in the original time order. Any pointers?

At that level, this is really simple to do and doesn't involve envelopes, or anything like that. All you have to do is open the track in Waveform view (double-click on it), highlight the section you want to silence, and go to Effects>Silence. Your audio will be replaced with silence, and the track length won't have altered at all. If you want to do a lot of this you can allocate a keyboard shortcut to it (I allocated F, as it was free):
