Sometimes, when I click the record button in audition, nothing happens

99% of the time when I click the red circle then the software begins to record, but every now and then it doesn’t and it just sits there for 15 or 20 minutes doing nothing. I close it, restart and wait for several minutes before will work. Is this normal behavior? I’m not changing any devices or settings before it randomly stops working. Also, I don’t have any other software open and I have the same browser open when this happens, but it is the same browser that is open when it works.

My input interface is the Focusrite USB and output is the laptop speaker, as always.

I don't see anything that says "Drivers".

In the boxes where it says Device Class and Device. However you may well have problems trying to use two different types of audio interface at the same time, one for playback and the other for record. Audition is designed to only use one for both input and output, preferably using the manufacturers ASIO drivers. The problem using two interfaces is that there is no way that the word clock for the two devices can be synchronised. This causes a reduction in audio quality because for both devices to work the digital audio data from one has to be sample rate converted somewhere within the operating system to do this and Windows audio drivers are very poor at doing this. Really you should be using the Focusrite USB interface for both input and output using the supplied ASIO drivers.

Which version of Audition and what operating system? Usually when this happens it is because some other software has grabbed the audio device away from Audition. This is very likely to happen if one is using an onboard soundcard and Windows audio device drivers where Windows tends to want to play warning notifications if something changes with other software like browsers. It is always best to turn off all Windows sounds when using DAWs seriously.

And what audio interface and drivers do you have selected in Audition's Audio Hardware preferences?
