Sound Bath: Crystal Bowls Resonance Recording Issues

I have been working with Au for over three years now and have had virtually no issues with voice recording blog posts, doing overlays w voice and music, creating multitracks, etc. I have a Avantone mic, which has the versatility I need to get the basics done on pretty much any project I will be working on. I am having a problem using my avantone in stereo, (dome?) format. I have researched how to dial my mic, my scarlett solo, etc... for this project and tried many combinations to make sure it wasn’t an issue with the mic or any other part of my setup. I want to capture the sound of singing bowls that have deeper and stronger resonances and I am pretty sure the issue stems from Auditions presets, but I don’t want to overmanipulate or create issues where they aren’t. When testing, I always speak into the mic and can hear every nuance. The thing is, I can’t capture the slightest sound from the very loud bowls. Anyone have any advice on what I need to adjust? Thanks in advance.

I have the Scarlett solo as input and a headphone as output as I cut and edit. Mostly default on everything else for the start of recordings. It definitely captured everything after a drag and drop from Garageband into Aud. Just more work that I was expecting. It seems like the sound might be compressing due to the extremes of sound?...However, I played w the settings for a bit to check that out, but it didn’t fix the issue. Even consistent low volume playing didn’t show up in the recordings for Adobe Aud. You heard me moving around though… you could still hear my voice well, my shuffling of paper, any other sounds in the room. Just not the bowls.

I’m stumped. Check are your recording input levels. Can you monitor the input while recording and keep an eye on the levels?

Yeah, me too!ha:) Thanks, I will try that for sure... When I opened the garage band file and looked at the spectral frequency, it’s all there. I tried that to see if there was even the slightest amount on the Ad Audition and nothing. So strange… I want to try and remove as much as I can from default settings to see if it makes a difference. I am guessing it’s the range. Back at it! Thanks for brainstorming w me. Cheers

So, you have a Avantone stereo mic? Are you trying to record stereo through your Scarlett solo?  There’s no simple way to do that, so that could be the issue,

thanks for your response. Can you elaborate a little bit, please? I would love to undersand more about your perspective. Since yesterday’s post, I decided to do a test to see if I would have more luck w another recording platform. I tried garageband, and immediately I was able to capture the sound bowls. So, I am thinking it’s def something with the platform restrictions. I will try another platform today. I prefer Adobe Audition because it’s what I use for everything else, but I might have to record and drop the files in at the end… Would love to hear why you think it might have to do w the mic and scarlett solo though… Maybe something within there could be effecting Au specifically...

Well, if it works in Garageband, it’s not an issue with the physical connection. What input have you selected in Audition’s Audio Hardware settings, and what input have you selected for the track you are recording to?
