hi there,

I am a student currently working on an audio piece and I was wondering what the best way to make my atmosphere sound (rain, thunder etc) sound like it's coming from outside.

I know it can be done with eq's and mastering but I'm thinking if there is any other way that might be better.

thanks.

No, not really. With most effects it's a matter of rolling off the bass, but be careful with thunder - you tend to retain that indoors, and if anything, roll off the higher frequencies slightly. The other thing that might make a difference would be to include a bit of the early reflections from a room reverb in them (not the reverb itself), but you'd have to be careful, and do a few experiments.
