Sound leveling - Audition

I am a podcast editor and I use Adobe Audition to edit the audio. I've run into the issue of not being able to keep the sounds level. I manually go in and adjust the volume of the peaks and the quieter spots to make it more level but is there something within the program that I can, say, set the target volume to -16dbs? The audio is stripped from Skype phone calls, and while the host always has a great sound set up, the guest does not always. I'm trying to make the levels as even as possible. Is there anything that can help?

You might like to investigate the Speech Volume Leveler. You can use this either in Multitrack, or as a standalone effect in Waveform view. Personally I prefer to use it on whole tracks in Waveform view, because then all you have to do is basic track levelling with the mixer to get a final result, and I find that it makes any edits you do to the track a little more predictable. It's perfectly possible to use it as a Multitrack effect though.
