Sound suddenly quiet when recording

Hello,

I've been recording an audio book for the last few months and am coming to the final chapters. However, I turned on Adobe Audition last week and, when recording, the sound levels are much lower than when I recorded previously. I've replaced both my microphone and sound adapter thinking it may be these but nothing has changed. The sound levels are considerably different and I haven't changed any settings in Adobe.

Can anyone advise how to increase volume during recording or before recording?

We'd need to know about your sound device, because Audition only records what it's sent from it - no level alteration in Audition possible!

I'm using an XIAOKOA PC Condenser Microphone with a Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter on a Mac Laptop.

Then I think it will be whatever sets the record level on the Mac - the Sabrent uses a universal driver (no control panel of its own) and none of the mics that fit that description (there seem to be several) have any sort of output level control on them.

But because it's a Mac, I can't give you chapter and verse, because I don't use them. What you are looking for is some sort of Mac control panel with level controls on it, though - and the channel for the Sabrent is what you need to look at and increase the level of.
