Stop button malfunction

Question

While recording using Audition 2020 I needed to stop but found clicking the stop button had no effect and noticed it had been grayed out. How would this happen?

Eventually brought about a stop by clicking on another file and normal service resumed. But happened again during my two hour session. Anyone else had this? If so what did you conclude?

Generally this sort of thing happens when your computer decides that something else gets higher priority than recording, and won't release enough resources to give you back control immediately. Typically this might be something like WiFi polling or indeed anything else related to external networking. Of course you haven't mentioned whether this is on a Mac or a PC, but I believe it's quite possible for it to occur on either. The exact cause could be quite hard to track down...
