Talkback mic workaround?

after searching the forums and online I guess using a talkback mic with audition isn't an option? which really sucks if so. I tried using mine on my presonus studio live mixer and It doesn't seem to work. so im wondering..if I just hookup this dynamic mic to a different mic channel in my studiolive mixer..and then use that channel in a track in audition to feed to the vocalist would it work the same way? the mic has an on and off switch..so I could just turn it on when needed. Im hoping it would work since it would pretty much be the same setup as the vocal mic except it would sit on my desk in the control room....ive also heard about this app call MOTU..mark of the unicorn..thats suppose to solve this issue. has anyone had any experience with it??

Despite what it says on the advertising, the Audiobox USB 96 isn't really designed for studio use - as you have pretty much discovered. Well, not if your studio has a separate control room, anyway. Whilst it would be very convenient if they had  talkback mics built in, the majority of audio interfaces either make no provision, or hijack an existing mic channel for the purpose; it's only larger mixers, or sometimes studio monitor controllers that have this facility in a hardware form. For instance, my Drawmer MC2.1 does - Drawmer Electronics - MC2.1 Monitor Controller

If you want a non-expensive workable alternative, then use a couple of cheap walkie-talkies. The talent will hear you through the headphones, unless they're super-efficient closed-back ones, and they don't need to touch it - any replies come through the studio mic.

It worked that way. I just need to make it so the feed from that mic im using to talk to the talent doesnt come back through the monitors in the control room.  I can still hear it through the monitors even after disengaging the organge monitor button and just leaving the track armed for recording by pressing  the red R. Any suggestions?

Why does Audition have to be involved in a talkback mic system? Surely it should go direct from a monitoring output feed from your mixer, mixed in with Audition's output to feed cue to the vocalist.

MOTU make audio interfaces some of which can have mic channels used for talkback using the mixing app that comes with the software drivers for their interfaces. There is no stand alone app from them that I am aware of which will do what you are asking.

This sounds like the answer -- but being very new to this configuration in Audition, I am unsure what the routing is to achieve what you suggest.  I have a mic plugged into channel 2 of the PreSonus AUDIOBOX USB 96, I can route it to be audible to the talent, but I can't mute it or easily turn it off other than unplugging it, which kind of defeats the purpose.  I really need a simple one-key on-off for the talkback channel that can be an easy part of the smooth punch-and-roll rhythm.|

Thanks very much for your help!
