The sound skips during playback.

The sound skips during playback.

The problem is this: I’m playing a track, after a couple of seconds the sound disappears, but the track is still playing.
The sound appears again if you pause and play again. What to do?

I'm sorry to say I have no solution, but I recently posted about a very similar problem.

For me, when I'm playing a Multitrack session for over 20 or 30 minutes, the audio cuts out even though the playhead continues to move. In other words, it appears to be playing correctly, but there is no audio. Stopping and starting the playback does not help. I have to restart Audition in order for the audio to return.

I've set the Windows "Sound Scheme" to "No Sounds" and still the problem persists.

I'll attach a screenshot and my set-up below.

Thanks for any insight.

  • Windows 10 on a Dell/Alienware machine
  • NVIDIA High Definition Audio
  • NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible ) (WDM)
  • Realtek Digital Output
  • Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 audio interface (and I've had the same problem with the Scarlett 18i8)
  • Device class: ASIO
  • I/O Buffer Size: 16 (and I've tried much higher buffers)
  • Sample rate: 44100Hz (and I've tried higher rates)
  • Attempt to focre hardware to document sample rate: off

It rather depends upon how long it stays silent for. If you leave it like that and it comes back, then it sounds as though something else might be taking over your sound device - the operating system is a major culprit here. First thing to do is to make sure that all Windows sounds are turned off (assuming that you're using Windows, of course). On the face of it, you might have a buffer issue, but the way you are describing it, it doesn't sound like that, even though you haven't given much of a clue here. A good clue would be - is this in Multitrack or Waveform view? Playback is completely different in both... Another clue would be whether this has just started, or has it always done this?

This is multitrack. Windows sound are turned off. Sound doesn't return after it disappeared. This always happens when there are some of tracks and multiple effects are applied.
