time remaining to open, AND increasing

Dont know what to do.  Opening session stalls at 83% and slowly, the time remaining INCREASES.

After restarting audition, it is nowhere, but it is here:

now it wont force quit

    Did previous versions of Audition work OK before? You will need to find out what is causing Audition to stall on opening .mp3 files. Does it open ordinary .wav files OK? To do this you need to count this as a crash and follow the FAQ Audition Crashed.  Now what?  to get the details to the Audition development team. They should be able to diagnose the hold up from the log files.
