Question

Track pan envelope ineffectual

Hello. I have a multitrack of various stereo tracks. The pan envelopes for individual clips work perfectly (i.e. if I pan 100 to either side, the other side is silent). However, the pan envelopes for tracks don't do anything whatsoever if the track goes to a send. Only tracks which go direct to master work with the track pan envelope. Any idea why?

The clips on the tracks in question are mainly mono (on stereo tracks) but I'd have thought this would be a good thing?

Well I have no idea, because it works fine here...

This is a mono on a stereo track, panned, and sent to a bus, and the bus sent to the master. The only panning in the shot is on the mono track, and it's passed through. If you pan the track the same amount in the opposite direction using the bus pan, then it puts it back to mono again - the level pass-through appears to be completely correct.

Here's my multitrack - as you can see I've panned the track all the way to the left, the clip is in the centre. All it does is go to a bus which is also set to centre. Very confusing!

The multitrack doesn't tell me very much - a view of the mixer would probably reveal rather more...

The one condition that would cause this to happen - definitely - is for either the original track, or the bus track, to have the 'sum to mono' button active.
