Troubleshooting - AU not recording

Hey all,

My Audition was recording fine just a few days ago and I’ve set up today and created a new file in waveform - pressed record and nothing. It doesn’t give me an error - it's just not receiving input apparently. Audio chain seems ok (mic to audio interface (Scarlett 8i6) receiving signals as normal, audio interface to Audition maybe not normal?). I haven't changed audio hardware or channel mapping. Just no signal/waveform/input. I can pull up previous audio and listen/edit as normal - just can't record.

If I change audio hardware to built-in input and output on my 2009 macbook pro then AU receives input and records normally.

Based on this, I'm thinking either the USB port (although it doesn't record through either of the two USB ports on the Mac so seems unlikely that both would be bad), or perhaps the USB cable from audio interface is bad - but that too seems unlikely because it is a high quality cable and is in a fixed location so it's not subject to bending etc.

Cables and audio interface about 5 yrs old. Mac is 2009 and running on OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6 (can't update anymore due to age).

Any ideas? Am I on the right track? Advice greatly appreciated. Of course i need to get a vo project out today... 😕😕

Thank you!

David

Well it's a Mac - and us PC users don't really know about them, but I have to ask you one question; when you hit the record button, does the transport appear to move? If it does, then you have a signal path issue, but if it doesn't, then it's not properly connected to your sound device. If you can play back successfully, then my guess is the former, and the issue will be outside Audition, which is remarkably good at recording exactly what it's sent - if you see what I mean.

The other thing you could try is recording in Multi-track view. This is straight to file, and inherently 'safer' anyway.

Thank you Steve. Yes, the transport moves (transport is the red vertical line which moves across the record pane right?), so I think you are right - it is a signal path issue. In that case it may very well be the connecting USB cable. I'll replace it and see what happens.

    Thanks again.
