Unable to "Edit Clip in Adobe Audition" from Premiere Pro on large hard drive

I have my premiere project and source files on a large WD 10TB (7200RPM) hard drive. If I right-click on an audio track in premiere and click "edit clip in adobe audition" it opens audition but with an error on import saying either "General Import Failure" or "File not found." I can then open the same clip manually in audition and it works fine.

Also, if I move all of the source files to a faster drive like an SSD there is no issue at all, so it leads me to believe that it is related to the creation of the render-and-replace file not closing the file handle in time for audition to pick it up. Is there a fix for this?

Have the same problem and it's annoying the hell out of me, any ideas on how to fix it for good?
