For Perception under Reverb Settings it states: Tip: If a reverb is too smooth, it may not sound natural. Perception values up to about 40 give simulate typical room variations.

Does anyone know what this means? I'm kind of confused.

If a reverberation has too many reflections in it, they all coalesce, and it doesn't sound as though it came from a 'real' room any more. In real rooms reverberation has a sound of its own that is actually determined by the closest reflecting surfaces to the source of sound - these are called 'early reflections' and they give a reverberation its character. These also determine to an extent what happens with the more diffuse reflections - the actual reverberation, if you like - and if those don't match the character of the early reflections, it simply sounds unnatural. So for instance, if you had a small room reverberation set, but increase the perception value, there's going to be an acoustic mismatch, and that's what doesn't sound natural.
