Using keyboard shortcut to select track

Hi brain trust!

I'm learning to use Audition for editing a podcast, I'm producing. In order to make my work efficient and quick, I'd like to be able to mainly use keyboard shortcuts. For some reason, I can't figure out how to do simple cuts.

I use control + K to make a cut but the problem is selecting the track first (if I use the mouse I just click it to select it). Is there a keyboard shortcut that selects the track thus allowing me to do this?

When you say 'tracks' I suspect that you are actually referring to the audio Clips on a particular Track in the Multitrack view? You can step up and down selecting Track 1, Track 2 etc. using the Up and Down cursor keys but doesn't actually select the Clip that you want to cut.. And you can move from one Clip to another on the selected Track using the Alt+Right Cursor key. Then you would have to use the Left/Right Cursor keys to scroll the Playhead to the point where you want to cut. 

However I don't think that that is what you really need. There are no keyboard shortcuts that can place the cursor on a point where you want to Split (Cut) a Clip easily except by using the mouse to click where you want. All the keyboard shortcuts can be found and customised in Keyboard Shortcuts from the Edit menu.

A better option might be instead to use the Razor tool from the Tool menu which will cut the Clip where you click the mouse in one easy action.

I put "markers" on my track precisely and then use ctrl+K to cut where it is necessary. Using the razor too as suggested by @ryclark doesn't make a precise cut. This is a shame that this very basic task doesn't have a shortcut.

The razor does make very precise cuts, but if you have the snapping set inappropriately, then it may not. If you put a marker on a track, and the snapping is turned on and set to snap on markers, then the cut will be sample-accurate.

I guess I'll have to get used to using the mouse. It's disappointing but at least now I know that there's no way. Again, many thanks!
