Drivers are up to date. Audio works fine and  I can see the video if I stop playing it, but if I resume, black again

For working in Audition, I would use an Apple ProRes422 Proxy movie instead of h264.

You could try to transcode the MP4 that you're currently using to QuickTime in Adobe Media Encoder (ser the Format pop-up to QuickTime and the Preset pop-up to Apple ProRes422 Proxy), but it might be better to re-export from the original Sequence.

ProRes422 Proxy 1080 23.976 will be about 300Mb per minute.  You could scale to 960x540 to reduce that file size.

What are the video settings?

For example, is it Apple ProRes422 LT 1080p23.976 or H265 1080p23.976 or Long-GOP MPEG2 1080p23.976.

In those examples, those go from good for editing/monitoring to okay to editing/monitoring to not good for editing/monitoring.
