Voice-Over Improvements

Hello,

I am not entirely sure how to describe and solve this problem, so please bear with me and try to understand where I am coming from. I recorded a voice-over for a commercial that I created, however, the oice-over recording I did sounds very obvious to me that it was recorded at home and notnin a commercial studio. I want it to sound as clear and crisp as it does in regular commercial, but mine does not sound like that. I don't know what is missing, as I am quite new to Adobe Audition so I don't what the technical term is for what I am describe. Please help if you can!

Thank you in advance.

Even without hearing it, I can tell you that what is mostly likely to be missing is two things: A suitable microphone, and a treated acoustic space to record in (could be a vocal booth, could even be one of those special screens designed to do the job). Without a sympathetic space around the mic, you will pick up a lot of the room sound, and that's really what you don't want. Even a less-than-ideal microphone will sound better in a treated space... so as well as posting a sample, can you tell us about how you're recording this - often some quite simple things can make a big improvement.

Hi Steve, thank you for your answer. The microphone I used was from Amazon:

MAONO USB Recording Microphone Set, AU-PM422 192KHZ/24BITCondenser Mic

When the manufacturer's website won't tell me exactly what's in a mic, I'm afraid I get a bit suspicious. They say it's suitable as a 'gamers' mic, and these generally aren't exactly designed to capture the nuances of the human voice - if you see what I mean. But even with this mic the situation could be improved by treating the space it's in, and it probably wouldn't take too much effort to do this. If you don't mind spending a little money, you could get something like this which would get rid of a lot of the room sound. I can't play your uploaded file because it's only the project file with no media attached - what we'd need is just the audio on its own - don't need any of the rest of the project files at all.

Hi Deborah,

Please help us by posting a sample so we can hear the issue 🙂

Best regards, Euan.

Hi Euan,  I have uploaded the video I made, please have a look/listen.

Just as a comparison for the way I want the audio to sound, please have a look at this Garnier commercial. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
