Question

Voice Recordings Sound Different Between Recording Apps

Hello, I'm having a recording issue that makes no sense to me and need to reach out. I've looked for related issues on various boards but haven't come up with anything. I'm doing voice over work, and when I record into ProTools recordings sound clear, as would be expected. However, when I record into Audition recordings sound very muddy with lots of low end echo. This is using the same hardware, same sound card, same mic, same cables...etc. It face it's testing one recording right after the other. I've tried EQ settings, to no help, which does make sense because why would it sound ok in one, but not the other? Does Audition have an EQ that the other app isn't using???

Setup - MXL 990 mic, Mackie 1402VLZ mixer, Dell XPS 8930 PC, Realtek Audio soundcard, 6.0.1.8248 driver version. Audtion build 13.0.13.46.

Any help is MUCH appreciated!!!

Audition records dry - always has done, always will - but if you have any effects on the track at all as you record, then you'll hear them on the monitoring or when you play back the track without removing them from the effects chain (the dry recording will be played back through the same effects). Whatever this is, it won't be an Audition issue otherwise we'd all be experiencing it! Can we see a screen-grab of the Audition session you're recording into? Especially the track controls...

The other thing of course is the monitoring itself. How are you doing this?

Hi Steve! Thanks for the reply. I've attached a screenshotof the Audition environment after recording. But I have to correct something that I wasn't aware of earlier. As a test I exported audio from both systems, and after they are exported they DO sound the same. It's only while the audio is IN PT that it sounds "better", for lack of a better term. So once it's exported it goes back to sounding more echo-ie. I was only listening with the audio in the two systems. So I think I would have to work on improving the signal going into Audition from the Mackie??? Could it be as simple as just an EQ issue coming off the Mackie?

Thanks for all the help you give by the way. I've read many of your posts and have learned a great deal.

I forget to add that monitoring is from a pair of Alesis Monitor One speakers out of the Mackie.
