VST selection doesn't show in the effects list in Audition 3.0

I have some downloaded VSTs to use in AA 3.0. When I touch the effects list, there's noVST selection down below. What am I missing? See screen shot below.

Last time I checked on this machine, VST effects were there. I checked again this morning, and they were gone, just the same as yours have...

I got them back though by deleting the entire Preferences folder, restarting Audition so it made a new one, and then by selecting right down to the folder with the actual VST .dlls in, reinstalled them. It was only then that the VST entry came back. I think that for whatever reason, this version of Audition doesn't drill down through the folders to look for them; you have to do it yourself. It's almost inevitably the lowest layer, FWIW...

And of course they have to be 32-bit ones, not 64-bit.

Thank you for responding. I just looked to find the Preferences folder, and it's not there! The program installed in Programs Folder(x86). I found the Adobe folder and in it is Audition, but no Pref folder. I even searched the entire computer for "Preferences" and the one for AA isn't there. I do have Preferences selections in the program. If you end up telling me I have to reinstall the program, can I do it on top of original and will I lose all the settings. I'm most concerned about the processing presets I've created.

You do have a preferences folder - it's not possible to install Audition without one...

And, by default, it's hidden - which is why a search doesn't reveal it. And it's nowhere near the installation folder, either! So first you have to unhide all your hidden folders, and then the path to it is C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Audition\3.0 It's the AppData folder that is initially hidden. When you finally locate it, just open up the 3.0 folder and delete everything in there, and that will do the job. In more modern releases (I don't think it works in 3.0) you can achieve the same thing much more simply by starting Audition with the shift key held down.

Yes, you are going to lose your processing presets. If you go through all of the possible locations, both in the installation folder and the preferences folder, you might be able to locate some of them and save them. But if what is causing the lack of VST problem happens to be contained in that file (and since it refers to VST favourites, it might) then you won't get the VSTs back... your choice.

I can't guarantee that any of this will work for you - all I'm saying is that it worked here in similar circumstances to yours. We're not even officially supposed to be supporting Audition 3 any more (although we've bent that rule a number of times and not had a slap on the wrist yet...)
