Weird Limiting effect on podcast track

I am finishing off a podcast for Mix-down -- rad each indifidual track through Normalization and Match Loudness, and suddenly the main interview has this weird limiting effect -- like a drunken gardener went over it with shears and cut a not-so-level line across it.  What could have caused this?
