Weird Square / Rectangle Shaped Glitch Appeared While Recording

A square / rectangular shaped audio glitch appeared while we were recording a book.  (See pic).  When we heard it back, it sounded like digital distortion.  I would love to understand what caused this and what I could do to prevent this from happening in the future.  We are using a MOTU and a RODE mic.  Thank you!

Hard to say - but I can tell you a bit about it... it's not just present in the glitch, for a start. If you amplify what looks like silence just before it (about 45dB) you'll find that a very slightly modified version of it is going on there too:

This somewhat points the finger of suspicion at your sound device. What MOTU is it, and is this a 'normal' Rode mic? I've heard similar bursts of what sounds like similar interference from radio mics...

A bit of audio of it would be more use than just looking at the waveform...
