I posted this question about 2 years ago and am still waiting with breathless anticipation. Please see these 2 files:

    Learning Material in my Google Drive

[Note: If you want to hear the congas, soprano, etc. you have to download the 'About this Non-Negative Business' PDF file]

According to the author of the most advanced research in source separation:

    Paris Smaragdis :: ECE ILLINOIS

     Paris' Personal Web Page

Paris Smaragdis, in an e-mail that he kindly sent me, he expected the awesome features that he has developed to be included in the production version of Audition "within two years".

TIA

Adobe has never revealed, well in advance of a release, what additional features are going to be included in a future version, so the chances of getting an 'official' answer here are effectively zero. Why don't you email him again and ask him about progress?

Any tips about source separation in general are most appreciated.

The only fairly established software in this field which gives some separation of polyphonic audio is Celemony's Melodyne.

Thanks, Steve. I just wanted to check here first because I have been away from the field. Also: I have not used Audition in a long time but a friend approached me and I told him that I would investigate this matter further. His specific interest is separation of music instruments.

Regards,

-Raymond
