Which ID3 tag version does Adobe Audition use?

I have an .mp3 file that shows its Year as 1994 in Windows Explorer. However, when opened in Audition, it shows no Year under the ID3 metadata tab. I'm thinking Audition only reads one kind of ID3 tag, do we know which that is? Is it only the most up to date version?

It's odd, because it does pull other info like Song Title, Author, etc. Just not the year. But that metadata is somewhere.

I can't find it documented, but my guess (open to correction) would be ID3v2.3

This won't help you though, because as far as I can ascertain, there's no available field in Audition for showing the year anyway (even if you tell the Metadata display to show everything in all metadata), and no I don't know why that is either, as it's been in all the 'specifications' so far - I think. But you have to bear in mind that there's no real standard for ID3 - there never really has been; it's an ad hoc thing that has changed quite a bit over the years. Read this carefully and weep...

Thank you! I did not know there was no standard: that makes sense of a lot of troubles I've been having.

As for Audition having a year, there is a "Release Year" under the ID3 tab, for anyone else looking. I think that's it. But if it pulls from ID3v2.4, and my Windows Explorer finds, well, any other version, then that may explain why it's missing in Audition.

    Thanks again!
