Which mixer or other gear to use with Audition

Hi, everyone!

Last year I bought a Behringer 302 USB to use for recording and for use with Skype calls & other things. It worked for some simple things, but I later determined that a Behringer Q1202USB was the winning ticket. As things on computers do, something changed, and I can't achieve the functionality I need. Not even the things I had initially.

I'm not married to the Behringer mixer, so I'm entertaining suggestions for how to achieve these few things with some other hardware. I've used Audition sporadically in the past, but I intend to make it more central to things I'm working on.

These are the things I need & want to do, and I'm open to any (hopefully) single piece of hardware that will work with Audition to accomplish them.

  • Keep a mic plugged in and use it to record vocal tracks when needed.
  • Record from programs, inclucing my browser or any sound/recording software into Audition.
  • Mixing the mic with the audio from my soundcard would be a plus.
  • Sending output to a line out going to my component stereo system. I have no speakers attached to my computer.

To my understanding, these are all possible with the Behringer mixer, and I've done most of them previously. At the moment, though, I can't get any signal to Audition. I've tried every hardware setting in the Audition Preferences, and I've got nothing. My PC sound card does travel through the mixer and from the Control Room outs to my stereo receiver.

I've chased this off and on for weeks. Everything online related to this mixer is merely "drive by" recounting of features, and I can't find a cogent discussion of how to use USB to go both directions between board and PC. So, maybe some hardware with adequate documentation will get me where I want to go. I've always hears, when you buy cheap, you get what you pay for.
