Question

Why does Audition create distortions in audio

There seem to be some kind of presets in Audition that try to "correct" audio automatically, and in doing so create distortions. I would love some help so that I can turn these off, or at least know how to work with them. I am including two very short clips of audio. One is exported from Audition. During the silence, as the subject searches for words, Audition creates this effect as it tries to adjust for a bird in the background. The other clip is exported from Premiere. It sounds much more like the original recording in its original state. I would greatly appreciate help with this issue. It is causing me huge problems.

Many thanks, Doug

Audition emphatically does not do this on its own. Somewhere some inappropriate amplitude processing has been used, which bounces the noise floor up and down. What it sounds like is that the level gets boosted during speech, and when there isn't any, then the level drops back down again to a similar level to the Premiere clip.

So we need to know exactly how the audio got into Audition, and how it was treated. Audition on its own is completely transparent - indeed it's noted for it.

This is interesting. Thanks. I am using the podcast template. Do you think they might embed any effects with that?

Do not, under any circumstances I can think of, use the Podcast template for anything! Yes, it contains a load of weird effects that simply aren't relevant to any user. I really don't know why they bothered, as it's caused a load of trouble for a lot of people. We've been warning people off it for several years now.

Just start with the default template - that has no strange effects built into it at all.
