WHY is AUDITION IS LAGGING, NOT LATENCY

My Audition multitrack has been lagging in speed and performance when the tracks begin to grow, how can I fix this, thank you so much

Correct answer ryclark

It depends a lot on how powerful your computer is as to how many effects you can use a any one time. Some effects like Reverb can take a lot of processing power. This can cause slow downs if it can't keep up. One thing you can try is to Pre-Render effects heavy tracks by clicking on the little lightning bolt icon on the top right of the FX Rack on each track.

Same issue here: Audition does not use nearly 15% of my pc resources, it is a threadripper with 48 cores, 128gb ram all work drives are SSD's. I'm trying to mix a feature film and every clic I do takes 5 seconds to respond. Even the menus on the top of the software become laggy. I have tried, the current version, the past two versions, and the beta. Older versions work a bit better than current or beta versions, unfortunately, I can't find 2018 version on the adobe cloud, becasue I did similar projects back then without issues.

+1 -- Has been happening to me for the last few years. Windows 10, 12900k CPU, 128gb ram. Hoping this gets fixed soon. Trying to just edit VO for videos, basic effects like EQ. Can't cut/move tracks more than twice before it starts lagging and freezing. Updated to latest 2023 Audition and still happening. Anyone recommend another audio program that's not a full blown DAW?

Having the same problem 8/21/23 -- did this ever get figured out? I'm currently mixing an 11-minute short film in Audition (no effects applied yet) and the lagging is BAD. Audition is up-to-date, I'm working on a powerful iMac, and as far as I can tell there should be no reason for the slowdown. In Premiere, a technique that has helped in the past is deleting cache files. Could that be the issue here?

I've just started using audition on my laptop - it's not high-end by any means but it should be plenty good enough to do what I want it to, as I've been using photoshop and lightroom with hundreds of raw files with minimal delays. Using audition to track guitar and bass for a song using a distortion plugin, the playback is so laggy and glitchy. This is fixed by pre-rendering my effects, but this adds other issues with latency (for some reason, I might just have to re-record the tracks though). Don't know if this is applicable to your issue though

June 2022 now. I just started encountering this problem today. Edited a podcast a couple of weeks ago with no problems. Now, can't get cut/delete/ripple delete/etc without an extreme lag. Curious to see if there's been any progress.

I'm working on the latest OS and Audition version on a 2021 MBP M1 Max with 32GB ram. I cannot believe how slow it is - I can edit this many audio tracks in Premiere with no delay! Currently the software is nearly unusuable and waiting for the beach ball is costing me hours every time I delete / paste / move. Please hurry up and sort this out!

my audition has been really choppy as well, it started out of no where just like some of you guys, and all I'm doing is editing 2 minute wav files for songs. i hope the next update fixes this issue

I'm now running an i7 10700 with 32gb of RAM. Same issue. When I add automation and processing (VST3 mainly), every operation is down to a snail's pace. I have to chop my EDLs into ten minute segments to get anything like a real time response, which really is putting a crimp in my workflow, and adding an unnecessary 2-track editing stage.

Same here... please provide any current updated info.  Mine is a Dell brand new i7 using Microsoft 365.  Is there a fix yet? Cycling for simple podcast straight audio and music compilations. No effects.
Need the proper solution ASAP.

I'm having the same problem. Plenty of processing power, everything up to date, lags incredibly hard on multitrack projects with lots of clips and I try and drag them all around. I have zero effects going and it still lags.

Since this seems to be happening to so many people, I'll try to escalate it as an issue...

Thank you! It's really bad, like it's getting to a point where I can't effectively edit a podcast. And it didn't use to happen.

Joiing this thread late in the game, but yes, same here too.  I first noticed this as an issue working in Audition with a video music program (requiring a live music mix to picture) in the previous version, but I'm really noticing it now with multitrack audio-only.  And prints are taking forever: I can render a 4K video file that's way larger in terms of sheer file size than I can a 30 minute multitrack audio-only show.  Seems the further I am away from 0:00 on the EDL, the worse it gets.

All OS versions up to date, lots of RAM, etc.

No its not my computer speed. It just started on all 3 computers I edit on. Last month I was working a huge mix, very track and effect intensive with no issues. Now all of a sudden I have to wait 5 seconds after each mouse click.

I am having the same issue. It is extremely frustrating.
