Workflow for exporting tracks from digitized LP

Hi,

Im digitizing a bunch of vinyl LPs and want to find the easiest way to export each of the tracks.

1) I can define each track of the album using a range marker.  Is there a way I can drop que markers between each track and then let Audition figure out the range between adjacent que markers. (Im trying to avoid the range drag step)

2) Meta data.   When I export the tracks, I hope I can automate audition to automatically label the track number to the track name, so each track has a unique sequencial number.   I can't see how to do this in the meta data editor

I did a bit more testing.

Audition does export the metadata but only if you export as MP3.   AIFF, WAV, AAC, there is no metadata.   Also, Apple music app won't import the AAC encode from Audition.   It will accept MP3 and uncompressed formats, but not AAC

Can I be missing something here?

ID3 only applies to MP3. Doesn't belong to any other format, and was created as a de facto standard - i.e. not approved by a standards body. In many ways it's surprising that Audition handles it at all on that basis, because the developers get a bit nervous about 'bespoke' systems in general. Heck, some of the developers even sit on the standards committees... Because it's the Wild West out there as far as Apple are concerned, they think that they can do as they like - and being Apple, that's pretty much what they do. I'm afraid that if you are looking for a nice homogenised solution to the issues you're facing, you're not going to find one; this is basically why some folks roll their own ID3 systems.

Bit late to the forum on this but as I'm slowly digitizing all my vinyl I thought I'd give my way of doing it.

I record the album in its entirety as a WAV  and name it "album_name".raw. After cleaning up the rumbles and crackles I then work on each individual track going through it and removing scratches, pops etc. mainly using the heal too. I then highlight that track and "save selection as" track 01.wav etc. I then delete that and work on the next and so on. At the end  of editing Audtion will ask if I want to save changes to the original ".raw Wav", which I answer No to,so that all the deleted tracks are saved in case of problems down the line.

I then use Mp3tag to add all the Meta data including artwork and track names.

If you put a marker at the start and end of your file, and individual markers where you want breaks, then all you have to do to turn these into maker ranges in one go is highlight the lot and hit the Marker Range button at the top of the Marker panel.

There is no metadata automation within Audition, I'm afraid. If you use the Batch Processor on your file ranges, you can export them to individual files with sequential numbering for the names, but that's all. What I tend to do is to name the markers in the marker panel with the track names, and add a number at that point. Then the batch processing is easy. Typing the track names in takes way longer than anything else in this process - adding a number to the name is relatively quick and easy.

thanks this is helpful.

I also found since my first posting, I don't see the ID3 tag info entered in the metadata section getting applied to my exported tracks.   What I do see are some XML sidecar files getting exported along with the music file.

Im exporting as AAC and would like some basic metadata attached to the file so it shows up in itunes (or apple music app.  I just don't see it getting attached to the music file
