Depends entirely on what it is you're mixing. If you are creating a multitrack session from individual instruments it's certainly easier if the sources are mono - but that doesn't mean that you can't include stereo ones as well if you want or need to. This isn't like the ten commandments - nothing's written on tablets of stone with lightning strikes if you get it wrong... 😉
