Writing keyframes according to track peaking?

Question

I'm trying to create a radio sound effect where the volume of the static noise floor follows the peaking of the voice on the radio.

Basicaly: when the voice is loud, the static should get louder. When the voice gets soft, the static gets quieter. Is there a way to automate this in Audition?

Yes, you can do this by keyframing the static noise source, but I'm afraid you'll have to set this up manually...

In an ideal world, you'd be able to send the speech output from one track, and apply this to the Dynamics Processor sidechain input (and invert the result) on the noise track, which would modulate the noise according to the speech envelope. It appears to connect up okay, but I spent a little while playing with it, and simply couldn't get any sensible result from it at all, though. There are a few plugin compressors that have sidechain inputs, and it's possible that one of these may be better. I don't have one here, so I can't give you a real recommendation, I'm afraid.

Maybe somebody else has had better luck with sidechaining the Dynamics Processor than I've had!
