Camera Raw 13.1 crash

Newly updated Camera Raw 13.1 crashes and freezes the whole Mac laptop when trying to open any raw files in Photoshop. Tried it a few times after restarting. Every time the freeze happens, I can only restart my Mac by force, can't quit Photoshop or force quit. Please fix asap or revert back to the old version, it's affecting project deadlines severely! Not a good start to a super busy week before Xmas.

Yay!  Funny thing is that their release notes don't say anything about fixing the problem or even acknowledge it.

Well that's Adobe for you. Fix the problem but don't acknowledge the problem. Adobe needs a new management structure, out with the old, in with the new.

I am using Big Sur on my iMAC and I had the same issue.  After reading the threads below I installed Camera Raw 12.4 and the problem is resolved.  For anyone experiencing this, I suggest that you do the same thing until Adobe resolves the problem.

Nope, 13.2 still crashes for me.

Please explain how to install CR v12.4.  I downloaded and installed it but LR still shows CR v13.1 as the active version.  Not sure what else to try??  I can't roll LR back to v9.4 because my database was upgraded to v10.

Please make this right, Adobe.

To get on this chain - was happening for me too - going back to previous version is bandaid but is a temporary fix for me too.

Hi guys,

to anyone that reverted back to 12.4 -- did you guys ran into any issue since the downgrade?

I reverted back a couple of days ago and it seems to be working better -- 13.1 was giving me hard crashes almost instantaneously. But I just got a freeze, unfortunately. I simply installed 12.4 over 13.1; not sure if this is how you do it.

Using on a desktop (i9-10850k, 32GB RAM, SSD 480GB with plenty of space left, RTX 3080 as graphics card, Windows 10 Pro). Disabling hardware acceleration seems to solve the issues for good.

Thank you!

Sorry, I'm a bit... distressed. Left out some relevant information.

Freeze was followed by a BSOD ("CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT", can check the event viewer if it's the case). Didn't change any settings in the process of downgrading.

System is new (some three weeks old), fresh install, rock stable at everything else.

...more information (there must be a way to simply edit posts, but I'm not finding it -- sorry, guys).

All drivers up-to-date (NVIDIA Game Ready driver version 460.89), SO compilation 19042.685, not running any kind of overclock.

Was editing 7 or 8 RAWs from my 5D3 at once. Freeze happened just when I finished and was going to open all the files at Photoshop. Again, at version 12.4 of ACR (version 13.1, as I said, was too unstable). Both versions run well with GPU acceleration disabled.

Dumping Raw13.1 and installing Raw 12.4 did the trick. Phew! Thank you all for sage advice!

Same happens to me. How is this even possible, how did such a thing even pass QA. This update bricks my Mac completely, especially bad when I was supposed to edit some Christmas photos.... And not just camera raw, the issue occurs with Lightroom as well. Fix this ASAP!!!

What I did was use Adobe Cleaner to remove Camera Raw 13.1. Then I installed Camera Raw 12.4. I also reinstalled Bridge 2020, instead of Bridge 2021, and I have not had any issues.

I hope this helps you.

Merry Christmas.

I have overcome the camera raw crashes by uninstalling Bridge, Photoshop and lightroom. Then reinstalling them. I had 2 versions of bridge, 2 versions of Photohop 2020,2021, Lightroom cc and Lightroom creative cloud. Now I have one of each.

I would suggest there was a software conflict. I believed I had to remove all previous versions of Camera Raw. The software did not which version to use.

I also have a problem with lightroom crashing after upgrade, It seems the photoshop environment has some serious issues and is unusable. I need to manually reboot my Mac Pro and my Macbook Pro. I hope the patch comes soon can't do anything

I had same issues with 13.1. I downgraded to 12.4 and works great. Removed 13.1 with Adobe Cleaner tool and then installed 12.4. Not sure why it is taking Adobe so long to figure this mess out.
