Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

Thank you!

The tool seems to be very arbitrary regarding "distracting."  It would be more helpful if it selected all people and then allowed the user to decide which are distracting and worth of removal and which are not.

You can remove selections by clicking on the area then pressing the trash
can under where the tool is on the right. Has anyone found a way to add
people it misses?

for a future update, I would like to have a brush function to add unrecognized people (person details)

Thank you

I have used this tool several times and find it works quite well. I am using it with Windows 11 Pro and had a gaming computer built with high powered graphics processors to handle processing very quickly.

Watch babies faces, I had it completely change a babies face into an ai generated adult face. Very disturbing.

Worked OK for me today.

Good result.

Generated AI backround perfect

Thanks

Id like the ability to ADD people that should have been found, but weren't.  Or find ALL people and let me remove the ones from the selection that are not distracting.

Sometimes the feature does strange things. If I want to remove a crowd (20-50) of persons, some of the persons are not removed but replaced by some strange looking AI generated artificial persons. Not sure if this is the intension of "remove persons". 😉

I love the ability to remove people from the background, so helpful, but for some reason (perhaps a checked box) the program put more tiny people in their place?  Not really cute... back to the drawing board!

While it did an amazing job of removing three people and rebuilding the background convincingly, it didn't rebuild any grain that is inherent in this image which is on Chinese no name B&W film stock from 1985 so grain in very pronounced!

This is a great time saving feature, and sometimes it works really well, but other times it removes most of the people, but leaves some trace of them behind, which is not acceptable and requires further work. It would be great if it could be refined so that it understands a full extent of what needs to be removed.

Still a long way to go for this function. Was trying to get it to remove crowds in front of Melacca's Christ Church (the famous red historical church) and despite having so many references it can find online of that building and surrounding, proceeds to generate a bunch of even worse distractions instead.
